Golden Spoon Unveils New Website to Revitalize Brand

Golden Spoon, the popular Southern California frozen yogurt company, unveiled their hip new website highlighting the chain’s Southern California roots, it’s famous creamy taste, and even the frozen yogurt’s health benefits. “ We’ve only just begun to renew our brand and bring it back to life; the website is a reflection of what is to come,” said Golden Spoon’s CEO Roger Clawson.

Golden Spoon is Southern California’s original frozen yogurt. The look of the new website is simple and fresh, just like their ingredients, with classic Southern California beach images highlighting Golden Spoon’s heritage. It started in 1981 as a remodel of a health food store in Tustin, California, and has grown into a worldwide brand with an extremely loyal following. You can read all about the journey in the “About Us” section on the site.

The website spotlights the healthy attributes of Golden Spoon’s product made with real fruit and real milk , including full nutritional information for both low-fat and non-fat flavors. Another handy feature allows you to compare the nutritional value of Golden Spoon frozen yogurt to other foods such as ice cream, granola bars and smoothies.

The website is also a great place to find out about new flavors and new additions, like thenew eco-friendly yogurt cups, which biodegrade in only 21 days. Along with the new design and eco-friendly cups, Golden Spoon is also introducing a revolutionary new pricing method, one without scales. Most competing frozen yogurt stores provide one over-sized cup for customers to fill with yogurt and toppings, and the cup is priced based on the total weight. You never know what your dessert will cost you until it is too late, and it’s very easy to go over-budget.

Golden Spoon is changing all that with an innovative, industry-first pricing structure they have trademarked as “Weightless Pricing.” Customers pay a single, fixed price for one of three cup sizes, then fill it with as much yogurt and as many toppings as they wish. Three stores, including Irvine, La Costa and Carlsbad, will launch the new store concept on May 12, 2012 with free yogurt all day.

And, if all the flavors and toppings are not enough variety, customers can also choose their service level. Tell a Golden Spoon “concierge” employee what you have in mind, and then relax as they swirl your yogurt and bring it to your table. Or, you can opt for a “hands-on” experience and create your own masterpiece.

“My father, Jeff Barnes, is the founder of Golden Spoon.  Since I can remember, the stores have always looked the same,” said Reed Barnes, Golden Spoon’s Director of Training.  “As an

owner of two stores, including the original Golden Spoon location in Lake Forest, I love the new direction, the new look and the new store concept.  It couldn’t be a better time to be a part of Golden Spoon Franchising.”

Golden Spoon Expands To Qatar

Golden Spoon Franchising, the franchising arm of the largest frozen yogurt brand in Southern California, announced the signing of an agreement with the M.H. Al Mana Group of Companies to develop the Golden Spoon franchise throughout Qatar. The agreement is for the opening of eight or more stores over the next five years. Three stores are currently open in the Doha market area with five more to follow. The fourth location is expected to be open by April 30th with two more slated for the end of June 2012. The final two will open by the end of August 2012 for a total of eight stores.

“Signing the agreement to enter the Qatar market demonstrates our commitment to make Golden Spoon a leading global brand,” said Golden Spoon Franchising CEO Roger Clawson. “Our successful launch into Japan and the Philippines helped validate Golden Spoon’s international expansion into the Middle East Region and built our brand’s exposure worldwide. We look forward to replicating that success in Qatar with the M.H. AL Mana Group and throughout the GCC with other professional, multi-unit franchise developer groups.” Clawson said he plans to continue the health-conscious frozen yogurt brand’s worldwide expansion by signing master franchise agreements in the UAE, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait within the next 12 months. Golden Spoon also has its sights on key markets in Asia such as China, India and Vietnam.

“Golden Spoon is the only worldwide brand selling authentic frozen yogurt. Unlike most of our worldwide competitors, we insist that all of our products are produced and shipped from our dairy. The rest of the industry falls short by generally serving a reconstituted powdered mix that attempts to taste like their original U.S. product. The difference in taste, quality and overall value has set us apart for almost 30 years. One taste and you will know why we have led the industry since 1983,” said Clawson.

“Signing with the M.H. Almana Group of Companies is a great win for Golden Spoon,” Clawson said. A proven multi-unit developer and operator, the M.H. Almana Group of Companies has already developed a famous U.S. restaurant brand in Qatar. The M.H. Almana Group of Companies has many years of successful experience in retail operations. “We explored many franchising opportunities to add to the M.H. Almana Group of Companies family, and Golden Spoon matched well with our focus on bringing in brands that will be of value to the people in Qatar,” Abdulaziz Al Mana stated. “We feel Golden Spoon’s focus on local communities and its commitment to providing premium products at a great price creates an opportunity that is too good to pass up.” Golden Spoon’s community-centric focus adapts their model and flavors to fit varying cultures across the globe, all while maintaining a consistent and credible quality product.

When asked if any flavors would be developed to cater to the local taste palette, Clawson said apricot and additional regionally popular flavors would soon be added to the current menu. “However, we anticipate that our traditional Western flavors will also be popular.”

Nationwide Coffee Announces a New Range of Coffee Machines for Lease

Nationwide coffee is pleased to announce its new range of lease coffee machines. Operating since 2007 the company has over 3 years of commercial success in coffee machine leasing and selling as well as refill and coffee bean selling itself. The new ranges of coffee machines are designed to maximise user ease and provide the highest quality coffee of any models on the market.

Interestingly, hiring coffee machines and other amenities has become standard practice for most commercial companies in the last decade. Even multi-national conglomerates are increasingly using hire machines, over purpose bought models. Whilst this may seem surprising there is actually some sensible business thinking behind this strategy.

Firstly, a hired machine has the obvious advantages of offering an extended payment plan. Machines cost as little as £2.50/day compared to a one off cost of £500 and upwards. Whilst this seems to be a case of bad mathematics as £500 for a machine that lasts a few years is only equal to 200 days of hire there are a number of other considerations to take into account. Most notably coffee machines require regular care and servicing – once every six months at a minimum. If a company buys the machine themselves they will typically need to pay £100 or more for a service, which over two years greatly increases the costs of the machine. In juxtaposition a hire contract will include the costs of servicing and replacing the machine should it break.

Secondly, a hired machine is tax deductible. If a company hires a large variety of coffee or any other coffee machines these are completely tax deductible meaning that machine hire doesn’t reduce profits – unlike purchasing machines individually.

Finally machine hire plans have better warranties and offer instant machine replacements should anything impair the machines effectiveness or prevent it from working. This means they offer a quick and efficient service that ensures machines work in the optimal way.

Perlage Systems, Inc. To Release Cocktail Carbonating System

On July 20th, Perlage Systems, Inc. will launch the Perlini Cocktail Carbonating System, at New Orleans’ Tales of the Cocktail. Perlini is the first and only carbonation product designed by and for professional bartenders, specifically for use in commercial environments, and specifically tailored to the needs of bars and restaurants.

“The craft of making cocktails has been around for over two centuries, so it’s rare when something comes along that is entirely new,” says Jamie Boudreau, noted mixologist.” Perlini is that rare, truly revolutionary product. Perlini gives us a whole new set of techniques, flavors, and textures to work with , and that is very exciting to the profession.”

Currently, sparkling cocktails are created by the addition of an effervescent component, like soda or Champagne. This results in a lightly carbonated drink that is diluted by that added carbonated beverage. Perlini, by contrast, infuses all the ingredients in the drink with effervescence —including the alcohol– creating a vigorously sparkling cocktail with persistent bubbles, as with a fine Champagne.  Perlini create s a multitude of unexplored options by using carbonation to create an entirely new category of cocktail.

“In 2004, on a whim, I showed the owners of the ZigZag Café in Seattle how to make a sparkling Cosmopolitan with an early prototype of the Perlage Champagne Preservation System,” says Evan Wallace, founder and president of Perlage Systems, Inc. It was kind of meant as a joke, but t hey just about flipped. Their enthusiasm spurred us to start working on a device specifically designed to carbonate cocktails, and that’s how the Perlini concept was born,” “Perlini was conceived in a bar, and we designed it from the ground up with constant input and feedback from professional bartenders to create the perfect tool—one that would work in the chaotic environment of a busy bar without impacting the traditional workflow of cocktail production.”

Even beyond the realm of mixology, the Perlini has a multitude of uses in the workplace as well as in the home. With its commercial and home versions, this product allows anyone and everyone to get in touch with their creative side. Chefs are finding dozens of uses for this device ranging from carbonating garnishes and marinating chicken, to creating sauces and more . From creating your own sparkling water, to carbonating cocktails, juices and even your coffee, there is an infinite number of possible concoctions—limited only by the imagination.

Perlini retails for $199 and comes with shaker, pressurizing filler, and 12 CO2 cartridges in an aluminum attaché case.

VitaBrew Coffee Certifies Eight O’Clock Coffee and GNC Ultra Mega for FDA Label Compliant Vitamin Fortified Coffee Recipe

VitaBrew Coffee LLC released its Free Certified Healthy Coffee recipe to the general public with its Independent Consumer laboratory Approved ingredients. VitaBrew Coffee Founder, Edward Mugits, has placed the FDA compliant Ingredient label copy of their recipe for Eight O’Clock Coffee and GNC Ultra Mega Vitamin and Mineral fortified Coffee online for the general public and Crohn’s Disease help.

VitaBrew Coffee promotes online healthy recipes to encourage the intake of critical nutrients through the most commonly consumed beverage in the world. “For many, coffee is a staple, states Edward, it’s breakfast with or without a donut, muffin, toast or anything else, and for those who follow this dietary routine, the vast majority intake no supplements at all. I am one of those who placed less importance on nutrient intake than my morning coffee, and that morning brew took a lot more time than it takes to swallow a supplement. Is it a stigma with taking a pill, for many yes, but I call it lazy because I didn’t take them regardless of a reason, so I developed a Healthy Coffee for my nutritional intake and those who suffer from Crohn’s Disease. Living with Crohn’s disease is a whole different ball game, there are so many people afflicted with Crohn’s Disease who simply cannot digest the supplements that Coffee, for those who can consume it, is a perfect vehicle to improve their nutrient intake through their mucous linings and digestive tract if liquefied and diluted.

Look on my viatabrewcoffee website and you will see other unique sources of nutrient intake vehicles, such as Vitamingum, a vitamin fortified chewing gum by Vitaball LLC, made for those who may not take supplements but chew gum and those who simply cannot take them orally. That little piece of gum was never developed for Crohn’s Disease help or support, but it is helping and we thank Vitaball LLC for their continued expanse in healthy products for those in need .

Why GNC? because their natural supplements are the most effective formulations that we found compared to 8 other leading manufacturers. GNC provides the consistent quality control that actually exceeds GMP standards and their supplements were the only one that passed 3 consecutive Independent Consumer laboratory tests through the High temperature brewing process. GNC continues to improve its formula and results may vary with the evolving Ultra Mega supplements. It was at GNC where we found the Vitamin Fortified Gum”.

These statements are not endorsed by GNC, Eight O’Clock Coffee or the FDA, the FDA does not control the supplement requirements other than label claim. The Vitabrew Coffee recipes and the products and or information it places online are not to be construed as a cure, treatment or something prescribed to heal, treat or supplement any medically administered program, When in doubt, seek a physician’s advice prior to trying anything new.

5pm.co.uk, the country’s top restaurant reservation and review site has been given an exciting makeover and sees the launch of its brand new Health & Beauty section.

The site will feature profile pages for salons and spas with descriptions of facilities and photographs meaning people can feel more relaxed about trying somewhere new because they’ve been able to have a peek inside. 5pm.co.uk Announce Joint Promotion With Bunnahabhain Scotch Whisky

5pm.co.uk, Scotland’s leading online restaurant reservation site, has announced its new promotion in conjunction with Bunnahabhain Single Malt Scotch Whisky which gives 5pm diners the opportunity of sampling a free dram of Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old Malt Whisky as they dine.

The promotion is running at 75 Glasgow and Edinburgh restaurants from 30th April 2010 to 30th May 2010.

Bunnahabhain, from the Isle of Islay, is quite distinct from the other single malts from the area, given the unique, wonderfully gentle and delicate taste profile for which it is known. It has been created using lightly peated malted barley in a time-honoured distillation process and takes advantage of the pure spring water that flows freely underground away from the peaty moorlands.

Charles Shaw, Chairman of 5pm.co.uk said: “This Bunnahabhain promotion gives our diners even better value from the already great 5pm deals. Diners booking through the 5pm.co.uk site get the opportunity of trying one of Scotland’s finest 12 Year Old Malt Whiskies. When booking online all the diner has to do is indicate the number of complimentary drams they’d like – one per diner is available – it’s that easy.”

The 5pm trial and tasting mechanism is revolutionary in the sector as it is effectively a promotion which is run by the consumer.

For Bunnahabhain the joint promotion with 5pm.co.uk offers it the opportunity to have its brand tried and tasted in the best ambience; when diners are in the right mood and have the whisky served to them in style, thus keeping the customer’s attention for a longer period than other traditional tasting promotions would allow.

No Changes when Customers Select Christmas Wines

The ONLINE WINE RETAILER Serenata Wines sees that its UK clients are sticking to established choices this Christmas. The company does not glimpse any effects f r o m the financial difficulties that may still have its influence on the economy in the UK.

No Changes when Customers Select Christmas Wines

Serenata sees that Burgundy, a classical Christmas wine, is picking up gracefully in orders this time.

The London-based online wine specialist also revealed that additional established favorites, Port and Champagne, are proving admired.

Peter Ahl, Managing Director of Serenata Wines, said: “We routinely become aware of variations in wine popularity throughout different time of the year and have also noticed a number of influences f r o m current economical downturns, but this Christmas we see a solid growth and people buy the long-established wines.

“In Britain wine drinking is increasing steady. Every wine-growing state sends its stuff here which creates an embarrassment of choices. Buying wine online has too given people much extra choices and choice to acquire the most excellent. The selection of wines for Christmas is considered by many fairly confusing.

“Generally, Burgundy is considered the Christmas wine traditional. Many people who drink plenty of additional wines with a bit more ‘grip’ during the rest of the year do love their traditional Burgundy for their Xmas feast.

“Sparkling wine has its natural place in many social gatherings throughout Christmas time and the equally could be said for a glass of Port . Port which has a tendency to be replaced by other drinks still holds its position during Christmas.”

But Serenata’s out of the ordinary proposal for the ideal Christmas wine is a red wine that is not quite as conventional. Montepuliciano d’Abruzzo f r o m Valle Reale was the champion of Three Glasses in the 2009 Gambero Rosso Awards.

Spanish Food at Christmas Time: A Festive Treat

Perhaps one of the most flavoursome cuisines in the world, Spanish Food has plenty to offer in the way of enjoyment, and is for that reason a great addition to any Christmas stocking. With superb wines, from Riojas to Moscatel dessert wine, and excellent olives, Spanish food is a notable indulgence that can really put the enjoyment back into Christmas winters.

deliciosoimage.jpg (300×300)

The range of cheeses and meats in Spanish food is also impressive: for meat lovers, there’s no better gift than a well preserved chorizo sausage, or some finely prepared Serrano ham, and the Manchego, Idiazabal and Murcia al Vino cheeses are some of the best in the world, and will certainly get the love and appreciation they deserve from the cheese addicts among your presents list.

When stuck for something to buy those at Christmas who insist that it’s a time for enjoyment and fun, then, remember that specialist and genuinely quality food and drink are excellent luxuries that most people will appreciate, and that Spanish food is some of the best cuisine out there.

The Mediterranean is so rich in cuisine, in fact, that some of its most famous exports – its meats and cheeses – are easily matched by its vegetarian dishes, such as asparagus, piquillo peppers and artichokes.

For those with a sweet tooth, too, there are plenty of nuts, sweets and honeys and jams that can satisfy even the most ardent sugar fiend.

UK Wine Drinker Hazel Rigazio Has 2,015 Naked Wines’ Customers To Thank For Winning A Winemaking Trip To Mclaren Vale, South Australia

UK wine drinker Hazel Rigazio has 2,015 Naked Wines‘ customers to thank for winning a winemaking trip to McLaren Vale, South Australia.

Naked Wines, along with bbcgoodfood.com and the Government of South Australia, ran a competition throughout September challenging customers to come up with a new name for a wine, with Hazel’s entry Botanically Blessed winning the lions share of the public vote.

“I asked all of my friends to vote for my entry, but I never imagined I’d get 2,015 votes let alone win the competition, I’m absolutely astounded! It’s a once-in-a-lifetime trip and I can’t wait to roll up my sleeves, live the life of a winemaker, and blend my very own wine” explained Hazel.

Hazel, from Mersyside, will spend a week working alongside Naked Wines’ producer Jock Harvey at his family-run winery Chalk Hill, and if all goes according to plan, customers will see her tipple Botanically Blessed for sale in the UK on the Naked site.

“We had over 5,000 entries in total, with some really strong contenders – and some pretty ropey and inappropriate ones too!” explained Rowan Gormley, Founder of Naked Wines. “ But putting it to the public vote made it easy to pick the winner. We use our most interactive customers to help us select our wines, and it made sense to do the same with the competition.”

With the second most popular entry (ade-get-laide) receiving 433 votes, Hazel’s entry was the outright favourite.

Other entries included Didgeribooze, Down Wonder, Aussie Drools and Not for the Sheilas, with one entrant including a label design of his naked girlfriend posing strategically inside a six-bottle box (Robert Young Photography).

Hazel’s trip will include a stay on Kangaroo Island, a tour of Adelaide and numerous cellar-door tastings. And to find out how Hazel gets on, you can follow her blog at http://www.nakedwines.com/auscomp.

FoodTV Promotes Prudent Portions

With obesity rates rising, it is more important than ever that people eat healthily and take enough exercise. That is why FoodTV provide hundreds of simple and nutritious recipes, as well as demonstration videos to view online. However, when you begin to experiment and create your own dishes you shouldn’t forget the advice gained from FoodTV.

foodtvimage.jpg (400×300)

Every meal should include a variety of vegetables, carbohydrates and protein. You should also follow these tips for simple portion control:

Pasta
When cooking dried spaghetti, you should prepare a small handful for each person. Obviously this won’t work with some of the numerous varieties of pasta – a handful of penne pasta is not the same as a handful of tagliatelle.

Instead, a 230 gram serving of pasta is roughly the same size as a tennis ball. To make your pasta dishes even healthier, choose the wholegrain option.

Meat and fish
Both meat and fish are great sources of protein. However, nutritionists recommend you limit your intake of red meat, such as beef or lamb.

An average serving of meat should be about the same size as a deck of cards or a chequebook. A serving of fish – which is high in Omega 3 – should be about the same.

Vegetables
Whenever possible you should steam vegetables, as this means they will retain more of their nutrients. A 115 gram serving of cooked vegetables should be around the same size as an orange.

Dried fruit
While dried fruit will last much longer than fresh, it has around five times the calories by weight. To make sure you don’t overindulge, you should remember that a single serving of dried fruits should be about the same size as an egg or a golf ball.

Salad dressing
There is no need to add spoonfuls of dressing to add life to a salad. Instead, a drizzle of about five grams (roughly the size of your thumbnail) should be sufficient.

FoodTV provides hundreds of hours of online food-related videos, as well as easy recipes, budget cooking and drinks for all ages. Users can share recipes through the FoodTV community.

Alimentum Makes The Sunday Telegraph Top 50 Summer Restaurants List

Alimentum Restaurant in Cambridge, renowned for its affordable, ethical, award-winning food was placed runner up in the prestigious Observer Food Monthly Best Restaurants in Great Britain Awards recently, joining The Fat Duck at Bray in the Southern area selections. Moro in London took the overall prize – as voted by readers of the Guardian / Observer titles.

The online review says simply “Gorgeous menus using organic and locally sourced produce.”

And in August The Sunday Telegraphs Jasper Gerard voted Alimentum one of his top 50 summer restaurants in the UK after dining at the restaurant in July

“…This French classic is rarely executed with much panache in England, but this is as delicious as I’ve tasted… there is plenty of gastro promise here and I heartily recommend it.”
– Jasper Gerard, The Telegraph

Speaking about the influential recognition the restaurant has achieved of late, owner John Hudgell commented “This is just superb recognition of all that we are striving to achieve at the restaurant. To be placed as a runner up alongside Heston Blumenthal and his team has made everyone here feel a little bit special – and rightly so! And Jasper Gerard doesn’t pull any punches either so we’re obviously doing lots of things right.

August has been quite a month for us as we’ve also just received news that we’ve been shortlisted for another RSPCA Award – having picked up the Innovation Award in 2008 we have this year been nominated in the Independent Restaurant category and are looking forward to the awards night on October 7th.
