BevZero installed 100 solar panels on the rooftop of its Spain facility

New Zealand based Behemoth Brewing takes time off Trump bashing to raise $3.5m for a new brewery and restaurant

Auckland, New Zealand, 2019-Jun-09 — /EPR Network/ — Behemoth Brewing, the New Zealand craft brewer whom last year took a jab at Donald Trump with their cheekily named “Dump the Trump IPA”, have launched an investment campaign in New Zealand.

The campaign is looking to raise $3.5m (New Zealand Dollars) to help fund a new brewery and restaurant in New Zealand’s biggest city, Auckland.

Behemoth came to global prominence last year when it brewed the afore mentioned Dump the Trump, an American style IPA. It followed this beer up with another brew designed to rile the US President, a peach sour called Im-Peach-ment.

When Behemoth brewed the latest batch of Dump the Trump in May 2018, it managed to get them trolled by US right-wing internet warriors. The Behemoth facebook page received hundreds of bad reviews and comments within a few hours.

The trolling made News headlines in New Zealand and soon after the New Zealand public rose to the defence of Behemoth, pushed the average review score back up and gave the hardliners a taste of the Kiwi sense of humour with some classic parochial responses to the nasty comments.

Ironically the publicity that the Trump-o-philes inadvertently created proved a catalyst for growth for the Behemoth beers. In the last year, their revenues grew by 136%, and they now export to 11 countries over the world.

 

The investment campaign which is currently live is open to qualified overseas investors and runs alongside a New Zealand only equity crowdfunding campaign. Since they went live on Thursday afternoon, the campaigns have already raised more than $800k in investment, halfway to the minimum amount required to close the combined offers.

Redefining The Modern Wine Experience

Josh McFadden, the 31 yr. old Creative Director and Founder of Proof Wine Collective (a creative company dedicated to developing small-production, critically-acclaimed wineries) has big plans for a space of his own. The self-taught entrepreneur has spent over ten years mastering the ins and outs of the wine industry: working harvest, sommelier at restaurants, wine buyer, wine shop clerk, cellar rat, cook, server, and wine label designer… He’s been there!

After 4 years of building Proof from the ground up, Josh is ready to catapult himself into the next big project. Turncoat Wine Co. will be a wine bar located in the center of the rapidly growing wine region that is the Central Coast of California. Not only will it be a wine bar, the 4000 sq. ft. space will also offer a full service restaurant, wine shop, lesson room for tastings, and also act as an event location. Turncoat will create a much larger wine presence in the small downtown of San Luis Obispo, and put the area on the map as a top destination for lovers of wine, art and food. The place will be a display of sensations, and the play between all of them: an interpretation-gasm.”

Needless to say, Josh is intent that Turncoat will be a work of art in itself. His repertoire includes labels on display at the SF MOMA, Trader Joes, as well as for many of the top wine producers of Paso Robles and Santa Barbara like Herman Story, Sans Liege, Field Recordings, Alta Maria, and Force of Nature.

“The winemakers I’ve worked with, just like myself, don’t come from money or privilege.” Josh brings up. “We’ve had to make our own way and we couldn’t have made it this far without the support from our friends.”

In preparation for Turncoat, Proof Wine Collective has put together a compelling campaign to raise money and awareness on the crowd-funding site Kickstarter.com. They’re trying to raise $25,000 by Dec. 3rd in order to help fund some of the initial start up costs of the wine bar. “I asked all of my friends to vote for my entry, but I never imagined I’d get 2,015 votes let alone win the competition, I’m absolutely astounded! It’s a once-in-a-lifetime trip and I can’t wait to roll up my sleeves, live the life of a winemaker, and blend my very own wine” explained Hazel.

Hazel, from Mersyside, will spend a week working alongside Naked Wines’ producer Jock Harvey at his family-run winery Chalk Hill, and if all goes according to plan, customers will see her tipple Botanically Blessed for sale in the UK on the Naked site.

“We had over 5,000 entries in total, with some really strong contenders – and some pretty ropey and inappropriate ones too!” explained Rowan Gormley, Founder of Naked Wines. “ But putting it to the public vote made it easy to pick the winner. We use our most interactive customers to help us select our wines, and it made sense to do the same with the competition.”

With the second most popular entry (ade-get-laide) receiving 433 votes, Hazel’s entry was the outright favourite.
